Be a part of the new Farwest Show marketing campaign

The Farwest Show is creating new "Meet Me There" marketing materials to continue highlighting our great exhibitors and attendees. We are looking for members to participate in our first promotional photo shoot at the OAN office from 3–5:30 p.m. Thursday, February 8.

"We want OAN members because YOU are the real deal," show director Allan Niemi said. "Part of our Farwest Show marketing campaign this year is to feature our OAN members who are at the show. By creating themed pictures of all of YOU, we will attract more people and companies in our industry who want to connect with you."

The campaign is similar to last year's "I'll Be There" Farwest campaign. Members are asked to bring small or medium sized tools of the nursery trade to use as props, or a plant or product. Wearing a company shirt with logo is also suggested. (Solid colored shirts are preferred, but please no shirts with graphics or wild patterns.)

Participants will enjoy beer, wine and snacks at this fun event, while connecting with friends in the association and getting photos taken for a good cause.

Let us know you're coming, so we don't run out of beverages! Please RSVP to Kelsey Hood at the OAN at khood@oan.org or 503-582-2010. » RSVP

"Having an unadulterated passion for nature and love for plants, I am absolutely thrilled to be here and cannot think of a better industry to work for," Kelsey said. Apply for USDA crop insurance by March 15

The deadline to apply for Whole Farm Revenue Protection and insurance coverage on spring crops is March 15. Crop insurance protects against a loss in production due to natural perils, such as drought or excessive moisture. Crop insurance is sold and delivered solely through private crop insurance agents. A list of crop insurance agents is available at all USDA Service Centers and online at the USDA's Risk Management Agency (RMA) Agent Locator. Producers can use the RMA Cost Estimator to get a premium amount estimate of their insurance needs online.

Warm winter weather worries some plant owners

Spring-like daytime and overnight temperatures are causing some plants and trees to start budding. A few residents in the Vancouver and Portland-Metro area are worried about the effects of the early start, but professional nursery managers only fear a late-year hard-freeze that will confuse their crops growing cycle. » Read more
